Dear Ukraine, Please Learn From History.

Dear Ukraine and Ukrainians,

If you end up surviving this war, it will be a miracle. You will have successfully fought off Russia, a super power. You will also have fought off an invader for the first time in your history.

We all blame Putin for his invasion but the fact that you have been invaded so many times and lost must give you pause. Sure, you have retained your language and culture, but at what cost? The cost of not having independence for most of your history, the death of millions of your people. And why?

The reason is simple, you are terrible students of your own history as you have never learned the lesson of your past invasions. You remember every assault but you forget why it happened and it always happens for the same reason: you didn’t prepare because thought you wouldn’t be attacked.

Sure you gave up the nukes thinking the West will protect you and Russia guaranteed your safety. Are you complete idiots? Why would you trust United States that is a world away and Russia which starved 5 million of your people to death?

And ok, you were weak and naive in 1991, but what about today? You were nearly destroyed in 2014! Sure you built up your army but to what degree? You still have a fraction of planes and ships that Russia has. In fact, Russia destroyed your whole fleet in an hour. You should have had massive amount of ships and planes and massive protection around periphery, especially given that you saw Russian troops at your borders.

You can blame Putin for invading, but refusing to acknowledge that after all the invasions and wars you could have predicted another one and could have prepared better is a big flaw.

Anyway, if you survive this war, I really hope that you reflect on what you could have done better and that you learn from it. I hope you learn the way Jews learned after losing their country one too many times. I hope you realize that no one will save you except yourself. I hope you realize that you are in a shitty neighborhood with a shitty neighbor and that the neighbor only understands the language of force.

This means that if Russia has a million man army, you need a three million man army. It means if Russia has a 1,000 planes, you need 3,000 planes. It means if Russia has 5,000 tanks you need to have 15,000 tanks and 150,000 anti-tank and anti-plane and anti-ship weapons. And if that costs too much money, think about all the lives you have ever lost, think about all the times your country was taken away, think of all the money spent on rebuilding the country.

Because seriously, if Israel with 10 million people can have an army of half a million people, you can certainly have an army so big that Russia or any other country ever fucks with you again.
